The Jackrabbit Ski Trail to McKenzie Pond and Beyond

McKenzie Pond

Elevation: 2580 ft

Ascent: 1000 ft

Distance: 4.0 miles

Location: McKenzie Pond Road off Route 86 east of Saranac Lake.

Parking is on the side of McKenzie Pond road. The trail is beautiful and relatively flat all the way to the McKenzie Pond trail junction approxiamtely 1.9 miles in. A side trail left leads to the pond and a nice area with a splendid view. (photo)  Beyond the pond the trail ascends some 900 feet and then descends moderately to the Placid lean-to at 4.0 miles. McKenzie Pond offers the major views along the trail.
