Mount Adams - A High Peaks Treasure with a Fire Tower

Elevation: 3540 ft
Ascent: 1800 ft
Distance: 2.4 miles
Location: Off of the Hanging Spear trail which has its trailhead off of County Rd 25 (the road to Tahawus and the Upper Works trailhead).
The trail crosses the Hudson River on foot on a swinging iron suspension bridge with the river cascading below. It then crosses Lake Jimmy on a floating rustic plank wood boardwalk. The climb is a rugged 1800 vertical feet in 1.6 miles to an eighty seven year old restored Adirondack fire tower. Climb the tower and feast your eyes on one of the most spectacular wilderness vistas in the heart of the high peaks wilderness.
Getting to the trailhead exit the Northway at North Hudson at Exit 29 and drive towards Newcomb on Blue Ridge Road (Route 28). At approximately 18 miles turn onto Lower Works Road (County Road 25) and then onto Upper Works Road. Park the car at the trailhead with trails leading to Flowed Lands, Mount Adams and Mount Allen.
