Rondaxe (Bald) Mountain – A Big Summit on a Small Mountain

Elevation: 2350 ft

Ascent: 390 ft

Distance: 1.0 miles

Location: Rondaxe Road off Route 28 west of Eagle Bay.

Rondaxe (Bald) Mountain is probably the most popular hike in the Eagle Lake - Old Forge area. The start of the hike is a deceptively easy walk in the woods, but fairly soon comes to the steepest section where the climb is up a widely eroded trail onto the top a ridge.  Along the ridge are several intermediate view points.  The trail follows the spine of the ridge with a few minor ups and down over bed rock much of the way.  The fire tower on the top has been restored and may be climbed for the best views.
