DIRECTIONS TO HEART LAKE PROGRAM CENTER

FROM THE SOUTH: Take the Adirondack Northway (I-87) to Exit 30. Turn left on Route 73 toward Keene and Lake Placid, continue on Route 73 for 26.5 miles. Turn left on Adirondak Loj Road (High Peaks Trailhead sign). It is five miles to the Loj.

FROM THE NORTH: Take the Adirondack Northway (I-87) to Exit 34, Keeseville. Follow Route 9N to Jay and Route 86 to Lake Placid. Turn left on Route 73 before going through Lake Placid. In three miles look for the High Peaks Trailhead sign and turn right on Adirondak Loj Road. It is five miles to the Loj.

FROM THE WEST: Take Route 3 or Route 86 into Saranac Lake. Continue on Route 86 through Lake Placid. At the third traffic light, turn right on to Route 73 towards Keene. In three miles look for the High Peaks Trailhead sign and turn right onto the Adirondak Loj Road. It is five miles to the Loj.

PARKING: There is parking for approximately 200 cars at a charge of $9 per day (ADK members pay $3 per day).

DIRECTIONS TO JOHNS BROOK LODGE and the GARDEN PARKING LOT

FROM THE NORTH OR SOUTH TO KEENE VALLEY: Take the Adirondack Northway (I-87) to Exit 30. Turn north on Route 73 and proceed for 12 miles to Keene Valley.

FROM THE WEST TO KEENE VALLEY: Take Route 3 or Route 86 to Saranac Lake. Continue on Route 86 through Lake Placid. At the third traffic light, turn right onto Route 73. Proceed through Keene to Keene Valley.

FROM KEENE VALLEY TO THE GARDEN PARKING LOT: Look for High Peaks Trailhead sign (next to the AuSable Inn). Turn onto Adirondack Street. At 0.6 miles the road turns right, crossing Johns Brook on an iron bridge. Continue uphill following signs to the Garden. The pavement ends as the road approaches the Garden parking area. From the trail register it is a 3.5-mile hike to Johns Brook Lodge. Parking is limited and there is a fee of $5 per day in season. There is a shuttle bus ($3 round-trip) from an overflow parking lot located north of Keene Valley on Route 73.
