8:00 p.m. March  7, program: Tony Goodwin - St. Hubert’s area history
Our March program will feature, Tony Goodwin, Keene Valley resident, guidebook editor, Director of the Adirondack Trail Improvement Society or ATIS and Executive Director of the Adirondack Ski Touring Council. Tony was the force behind the creation of the Jack Rabbit Trail aptly named for the legendary centenarian Norwegian-Canadian skier Herman Smith Johannsen. Tony will introduce us to the history of the founding of the original 40,000 acre AMR, a private reserve, which includes the beautiful pristine Ausable Lakes. Because the founders were also hikers, they wanted good trails and thus established ATIS and have continued to maintain trails in and around St. Huberts ever since.. Who were the founders of the reserve and why is much of this private land open to the public? Who puts up those rustic green trail signs?
