August 1-3, 2008

Trailless Peak Backpacking: Slide to the Summit – The Dix Range Field
This trip is designed for those who have experience hiking and backpacking and who are looking for guided backcountry experience in pursuit of climbing the five 4,000’+ summits of the Dix Range. The group will hike into a base camp from which they’ll be guided up the “trailless” peaks of Macomb, East Dix, South Dix, Hough, and Dix Mt. This course will be a cooperative group camping experience led by a NYS licensed guide with the shared responsibility of camp chores, cooking, and decision- making.
Cost: $150/$165; includes instruction, meals, and use of group gear.


August 5-8, 2008

Dog Days
This four-day Heart Lake exploration and discovery program is designed for kids ages 8-12. Each day will feature fun educational activities utilizing the woods and waters around the Adirondak Loj. These will include hiking, canoeing, pond & brook explorations, and lots of excitement and games. A “grand finale” for summer before the kids return to school! Children should bring their own lunch and snacks each day.
Cost: $145/$160; includes four days of instruction, materials for activities and use of equipment.

Trailless Peak Day Hikes: Esther Mt. Field
Uncomfortable approaching “trailless” high peaks on your own? This one-day course will introduce you to the nuances of hiking off trail through a guided trip to the summit of Esther Mt. (elev. 4,240 ft.). We’ll discuss safe low-impact travel, route selection, off trail navigation, and the rich natural history of the Adirondacks.
Cost: $52/$58; includes instruction.


August 8-10, 2008 

Family Canoe Camping: Lake Lila Field
Here’s an opportunity to share an unforgettable experience with your child or grandchild. Spend two nights and three days canoe camping on serene and beautiful Lake Lila. Enjoy sandy beaches, day hikes, and plenty of fun and games. There will be plenty of time for learning new canoe strokes, playing on the beaches, and exploring the natural history of the area.
Cost: $155/$170 adults, $110/$121 kids; includes instruction, meals, and group gear.

The group will hike into a base camp from which they’ll be guided up the “trailless” peaks of Seward, Seymour, Donaldson, and Emmons. Canoe Camping 101: Raquette River
Experience life on the water while exploring the pristine Raquette River and camping on its serene shores. This three day, two-night canoe camping course is designed for the outdoor enthusiast who has some experience both canoeing and camping and is seeking to bring these together. Participants will spend the days refining their paddling skills while appreciating the exceptional natural history of the area. In the evenings, we’ll practice cooperative low-impact camping and cooking skills.

Paddling Day Trip: Raquette Falls Field
Paddling up the Raquette River to the falls is a classic day trip. The slow moving current is easy to move through, and there are many places to stop and relax, or take a swim from the sandy riverbanks. At the falls, we’ll enjoy lunch and some brief exploring, and then begin the gentle “float” back to the take out. There will be some informal instruction on paddling skills, including safe and responsible travel, as well as discussion of the rich natural history of the area.
Cost: $60/$65; includes instruction and equipment use.
