2012 Heart Lake Ice Out Contest Ice Out

Wondering what to do with that loose change under your car seat? Would you like the chance to turn those pennies into dollars? Then make a guess at when the ice will melt on Heart Lake. Join the 2012 ADK Heart Lake Ice-Out contest by purchasing one guess for $1 or 6 guesses for $5. Winners will receive 50 percent of the ticket sale revenue. The proceeds will support ADK’s Education Department, specifically the Marie L. Haberl School Outreach Program and the Summer Naturalist Intern Program.

These programs need updated equipment, such as new snowshoes for student use, a new whiteboard stand and markers, and new display-making materials for our Nature Museum. Not only will you have the chance to win cash, you’ll be supporting the education of our future conservationists and leaders.

A weight with a clock attached will be placed on the ice on Heart Lake. The person to guess closest to the day and time it drops through the ice will be the winner (the clock will show the exact drop time once submerged).

Tickets can be purchased at the Adirondak Loj, the High Peaks Information Center in Lake Placid, ADK’s Headquarters in Lake George. For more information, please call 518-523-3441.

Contest Rules
  1. “Ice-Out” is defined as the day and time that the weight and clock is completely submerged underwater. Loj staff will be checking the ice twice daily (am and pm) and providing weekly photos on the website.
  2. Entries will be accepted from Feb. 1 – March 15, 2012.
  3. Your entry must include an exact date and time.
  4. Entries must include your name and a valid phone number and/or email address.
  5. Winners will be announced within 48 hours of official Ice-Out and contacted by phone and/or email.
  6. In the event of a tie, the prize will be awarded to the earliest guess submission.
  7. Winners will be determined by ADK’s Education Director, whose decision is final.
  8. The prize for the winning entry will be 50 percent of the ticket sale revenue. The remaining 50 percent will go to support ADK’s Education Department programs.
  9. Contest rules, terms, and conditions are subject to change without notice.
  10. Employees of ADK are prohibited from entering the contest.
