Paddling Day Trips

July 31

Raquette Falls

Paddling up the Raquette River to the falls is a classic day trip.  The slow moving current is easy to move through, and there are many places to stop and relax, or take a swim from the sandy riverbanks.  At the falls, we’ll enjoy lunch and some brief exploring, and then begin the gentle “float” back to the take out.  There will be some informal instruction on paddling skills, including safe and responsible travel, as well as discussion of the rich natural history of the area.

Cost: $60/$65; includes instruction and equipment use.

Aug. 1

Long Pond Mountain

Tucked away in the St. Regis Canoe Wilderness, yet easily accessed by canoe or kayak, is a small mountain with big views.  We’ll paddle across a few backcountry ponds, complete a short carry in between, and then take a leisurely hike to the summit to enjoy the panoramic views over this pond-speckled landscape.  We’ll discuss safe, low-impact travel and the rich natural history of the Adirondacks.

Cost: $60/$65; includes instruction and equipment use.

First price is the member price; second price is the nonmember price. Registration information is available here.
