Backpacking Series
Check back in spring for 2012 schedule.
These trips are designed for those who have experience hiking and backpacking and who are looking for guided backcountry experience in pursuit of climbing “trailless” High Peaks. (Information on our beginner backpacking program is available here.) The group will hike into a base camp from which they’ll be guided up the peaks. This course will be a cooperative group camping experience led by a New York state licensed guide with the shared responsibility of camp chores, cooking, and decision-making. As with any course, learning new skills will be our primary focus, and although every effort will be made to do so, there are no guarantees of reaching summits. Weather, safety, and group ability will be determining factors. Due to the physically strenuous nature of these hikes, participants should have prior hiking experience, be in good physical condition, and be prepared to hike up to 12 hours per day. A quick hiking pace will be required in order to reach our destinations each day. The terrain encountered is typical of the High Peaks region, so be prepared for anything from rocks and roots, to mud, blow-down, stream crossings, steep slopes, rock slabs and slides, and so on.
First price is the member price; second price is the nonmember price. Registration information is available here.
