The East and West River Trails on the Adirondack Mountain Reserve Property
NOTE: This hike is on easments on private property. Please respect the AMR rules.
Tammy and I experienced the most beautiful hiking trip to date. We hiked the east/west river trails in St Huberts. We parked off the Ausable Road where there was more than enough room. We walked up the road to the register where we then came across a nice elderly gentleman. I signed the book and he took the information from us. At 9:00 or so, we proceeded along the west river trail and while it was a little wet from all the rain, it was still a walk worth taking. The Ausable river was roaring throughout the trip.
We arrives at Beaver Meadow Falls and I could not keep my wife away from it. The spray felt awesome as the temperature was near 85 and a little humid. Plenty of photos were taken here as this was my highlight of the trip.
As we walked along, my camera could not keep up to my fingers as the scenery was gorgeous. 57 pictures later and we arrived at the Lower Ausable Dam. The sun was out and there were just enough people there to make it comfortable. After a nice lunch around 12:30 or so, ( we took our time on this hike ) we took a quick hike up to Rainbow Falls to see the 150' beauty. We were not disappointed as the picture shows.
At 1:15 we started back along the east river trail and the views while not as breath taking as the western side were nice none the less. Blue Herons were plentiful as well as many deer tracks along the way. We arrived back at the trailhead at approximately 3:45 and signed out.
99 photos later we both were very pleased with the trails and the care that was given to them. Very well marked throughout and even the trees had what species they were tagged on them on the western side.
This trip was an A+ in our book and one that we will again visit in the fall when the colors are many. Anyone looking for a great getaway and a beautiful scenic trip needs to look no further than the East/ West river trail.
