Family Friendly HikesView from Mt. Jo

Here are some relatively easy hikes in the Adirondacks.

Please read descriptions to ensure that the hikes are

suitable for you and your family.

High Peaks/Lake Placid Area
  • Baker Mountain A small but interesting mountain near Saranac Lake.

  • Goodnow Mountain A 1.9 mile hike to a fire tower.
  • Moose Pond A Short Hike to a Lovely Pond.
  • Mount Jo ADK's own mountain, on the north shore of Heart Lake (photo). Two trails lead to the top of this 2876 ft peak. For a description of the trail, see ADK's guide to Adirondack Trails: High Peaks (13th Ed.), pages 140-141.
  • Owls Head A 0.6 mile,  460 ft climb up a mountain with many fine views.
  • Poke-O-Moonshine A hike in the northern part of the Adirondacks with great views of Vermont and Lake Champlain.  It also has a restored fire tower.

            

Central Adirondacks 
  • Blue Ledges A beautiful spot on the bank of the Hudson River opposite the cliffs called the Blue Ledges.
  • Sawyer Mountain A popular hike north of Indian Lake.
Inlet Old Forge Area
  • Bubb and Sis lakes A pleasant walk in the woods to two Adirondack lakes.
  • Moss Lake A family friendly lake near the Big Moose Rd north out of Eagle Bay.
