ADK Volunteers Organize to Support NPT

June 6, 2022 — Lake Placid, NY — As part of ADK’s centennial celebration and National Trails Day, over 70 volunteers joined ADK-led projects last weekend to rehabilitate trails and campsites in seven areas along the Northville-Placid Trail (NPT). From the Woods Lake trail to the NPT’s northern terminus in Lake Placid, volunteers removed downed trees, cleared drainages, replaced privies, and more. All of these efforts are part of a push by ADK to revitalize the thru-hiking trail, which runs 138-miles through the Adirondack Park and intersects five communities.

“The Northville-Placid Trail is a world-class thru-hiking trail that benefits both visitors and the communities that it intersects,” said Charlotte Staats, ADK Trails Manager. “Restoring it not only preserves a bit of ADK history, but also ensures that we can continue to access the many benefits that come from outdoor recreation.”
