Cascade Welcome Center Launches Consignment Program

Cascade Welcome Center Launches Consignment Program

May 15, 2023 — Lake Placid, NY — ADK (Adirondack Mountain Club) is excited to announce a new outdoor gear consignment program at Cascade Welcome Center that will help reduce barriers to accessing the outdoors. For a commission, consignment programs facilitate the sale of used gear, freeing up space for sellers and allowing purchasers to find quality outdoor equipment at a discounted price. With this program in place, Cascade Welcome Center is situated to not only help visitors plan for a safe and responsible outdoor adventure, but also to equip them for it.

“Sometimes the high cost of getting started in outdoor recreation causes people to shy away from trying a new activity. The consignment program at Cascade Welcome Center will offer quality used gear at a discounted price, creating a more cost-effective avenue for people to get outdoors without a full retail price tag,” said Tom Manitta, ADK Deputy Education Director

Items that are accepted for consignment include:

  • Tents
  • Sleeping bags and sleeping pads
  • Internal or external frame backpacks
  • Single or double-blade paddles
  • Hiking boots
  • Trekking poles
  • Hammocks
  • Camping stoves

All gear must be cleaned, include all parts and pieces, and be completely functional. Additionally, the summer program does not accept skis or ski accessories, clothing of any kind, soft goods (like rope or climbing harnesses), or hunting equipment. Opportunities to consign skis and ski accessories will be made available in the winter months.

People interested in selling their used outdoor gear are invited to bring in items during Cascade Welcome Center’s summer hours, which are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day of the week. To learn more about the program, its policies, and Cascade Welcome Center, click here
