Supervised Volunteer Trail Crew Leader

Seasonal Position

The Supervised Volunteer Trail Crew Leader is responsible for working with, educating, supervising, and motivating volunteer trail workers.

Crews live and work in a variety of settings in the Adirondack Park, including backcountry sites and private lodging facilities. Using non-motorized hand tools, VCLs help construct a wide variety of sustainable trail structures with native and dimensional materials. Training is provided prior to the beginning of the field season. Approximately half of the trail projects in a given season are specifically for high school age (14-17) participants, while the rest are for all ages and experience levels. The Volunteer Trail Crew Leader provides for a safe, positive, and educational volunteer experience while accomplishing the highest quality trail work possible.

Location: Adirondak Loj & Heart Lake Program Center, Lake Placid, NY

Position Dates: Early May – mid-August

Compensation: $14.00 per hour, on-site housing included; paid sick time; Leave No Trace Trainer workshop and Wilderness First Aid certification; free ADK workshops, discounts on store merchandise and rental equipment.
