Join us and our Cold River Chapter for ADK’s 2022 Centennial Celebration & Fall Outing on September 23 – 25, 2022 at the Silver Bay YMCA Conference & Family Retreat Center in Silver Bay, NY.

Open to the public, this event will celebrate ADK’s century of teaching people how to explore and protect New York’s public lands and waters. Scenic views of Lake George will serve as the backdrop to three days and two nights of guided hikes, music, boat tours, food, and more.

In addition to over 40 planned outings, highlights of the celebration include music by Dan Berggren and the Jamcrackers on Friday night, and a special guest speaker on Saturday night: noted environmentalist and author, Bill McKibben.

At this time, no more rooms are available for reservation at Silver Bay YMCA. People may still register to participate in Fall Outing hiking and paddling activities, and attend the Friday and Saturday evening programs, but will need to make lodging reservations elsewhere. Please check back after May 1 in case rooms become available due to cancellations. See registration website for information about waiting list.

You may also purchase a day pass at Silver Bay giving you access to all of their facilities.

The Saturday night catered barbecue and buffet dinners are sold out. However, a limited number of reservations are available for the Friday night buffet dinner in the dining room, which includes a free day pass giving you access to all of Silver Bay’s facilities. See registration website for further details.

Entertainment & Presentations

Friday: Music by Dan Berggren and the Jamcrackers

Seasoned solo performers Dan Berggren, Peggy Lynn and Dan Duggan have combined talents to create a dynamic trio named in honor of the Adirondack river drivers who broke up log jams. They worked hard to find solutions, to get things rolling again, and it was a job that couldn’t be done alone. Dan, Peggy and Dan feel the same way about their music. These good friends and accomplished musicians bring a rare blend of humor history and musical spirit to their performances. The Jamcrackersmusical performance is genuine and contagious. The trio’s diverse blend of folk and blues, ballads, gospel, and dance tunes sparks a rare chemistry and a guaranteed good time.

Saturday: Guest Speaker Bill McKibben.

Bill McKibben is founder and senior adviser emeritus of 350.org. His 1989 book The End of Nature is regarded as the first book for a general audience about climate change, and has appeared in 24 languages. He’s gone on to write many more books, and his work appears regularly in periodicals from The New Yorker to Rolling Stone. He serves as the Schumann Distinguished Scholar in Environmental Studies at Middlebury College, as a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and he has won the Gandhi Peace Prize as well as honorary degrees from 19 colleges and universities. He was awarded the Right Livelihood Award, sometimes called the alternative Nobel, in the Swedish Parliament. Foreign Policy named him to its inaugural list of the world’s 100 most important global thinkers.
