About the Hungry Hiker

The Hungry Hiker was built in conjunction with major renovations to the High Peaks Information Center in 2019, which were part of the Heart Lake Property master plan. Upgrades to the Heart Lake Property also included expanded parking, a new campground loop, and an upgraded washhouse. These upgrades were funded by a grant from the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation (OPHRP).

With increasing numbers of visitors every year at Heart Lake, we see a correspondingly increased need for additional support for our programs to keep up. The Hungry Hiker is part of an effort to meet increasing demands on our trailhead and the High Peaks region as a whole. The Hungry Hiker also makes our campground more accessible for campers who may not have the ability to cook all of their own meals while staying with us.

In short, when visitors eat at The Hungry Hiker, they directly support ADK’s trails and education programs. You can feel good each time you enjoy a meal or snack at the Hungry Hiker knowing you’re helping stewards spend more time on summits, putting more tools in the hands of trail crews, and creating more opportunities for ADK to educate the public.

Come check us out on your next hike. For any questions, please contact us at 518-523-3441 or email loj@adk.org.
