ADK Publishes New Guidebook to Honor Centennial Year

March 7, 2022

ADK (Adirondack Mountain Club) has released a new addition to its authoritative collection of hiking guidebooks entitled Peaks and Ponds, Adirondack Day Hikes.

Authored by Cat Hadlow and Bobby Clark, this brand-new collection of thirty-seven classic and lesser-known trips honors ADK’s 100-year legacy of teaching people how to explore and protect New York’s public lands and waters. It interweaves snippets of ADK history as it leads hikers to beautiful and remote spots throughout the park—places such as Moss Lake, Catamount Mountain, Tirrell Pond, and Kipp Mountain.

“I appreciate the opportunity to have completed this project with my co-author Bobby Clark,” said Hadlow. “The entire process was one adventure after another as we explored the expansive Adirondack Park in search of trails worthy of inclusion in this latest ADK publication.”

“The process of writing this book was an incredible and unforgettable experience that helped me to see the Adirondack Park through a new lens,” said Clark. “I am thankful for this opportunity and for having such a wonderful co-author in Cat to share this endless whirlwind of adventures with.”

The 160-page, full-color volume includes GPS coordinates and QR codes for trailheads and parking areas. It also features page map sketches by illustrator Terry Brosseau; scores of photographs by regional photographers; information about wilderness safety and ethics; round-trip distances; and difficulty ratings.

“As we celebrate our centennial, we are excited to offer Peaks and Ponds as another way for people to connect with the history of both ADK and the Adirondack Park,” said Michael Barrett, ADK Executive Director. “Since 1922, our organization has been closely tied to the growth of this world-class park, and this guidebook captures that connection beautifully.”
