Adirondack 46ers Give Back to ADK Trails Program

October 26, 2021 – For the twenty-first consecutive year, the Adirondack 46ers have pledged support for ADK’s (Adirondack Mountain Club’s) professional trail crew by announcing a $46,000 donation to fund trail projects in the High Peaks Wilderness for the 2022 season. This is in addition to a 2020 commitment to donate $25,000 a year to ADK for the Adirondack High Peaks Summit Stewardship Program through 2023.

The Adirondack 46ers have been a consistent supporter of trail work in the Adirondack Park for many years, including investing nearly $400,000 in ADK’s trails program over the last two decades. Their commitment to supporting trail projects has also scaled with increases in visitor use, with over $300,000 of that support coming over the last decade when visitation has been the highest.

“The Adirondack 46ers are pleased to once again provide funding to the ADK professional trail crew. Along with our volunteer 46er Trail Crew, both organizations make significant trail improvements on an annual basis,” said Laurie Rankin, President of the Adirondack 46ers.

“DEC thanks the Adirondack 46ers for their support and commitment to stewardship and education in the High Peaks Wilderness,” said NYSDEC Region 5 Regional Director, Joseph Zalewski. “Programs like the Summit Stewardship Program help safeguard rare ecosystems and showcase gold standard education to protect natural resources.

Today’s funding announcement for the ADK Trails Program bolsters our ability to protect the resource, promote hiker safety, and improve the wilderness experience for users by expanding sustainable trail building techniques to trails that provide access into New York’s highest mountains.”

This year’s commitment from the Adirondack 46ers will fund training for ADK’s professional trail crew and the continuation of two projects in the High Peaks Wilderness, one near Slant Rock and another near Avalanche Lake.
