ADK Hosts Second StoryWalk
ADK Hosts Second StoryWalk
July 5, 2023 — Lake Placid, NY — ADK (Adirondack Mountain Club) and the Lake Placid Public Library have partnered again to bring an interactive StoryWalk® to the Heart Lake Program Center. Located along the Heart Lake Loop between the Adirondak Loj and the Nature Museum, the StoryWalk® features printed panels from Over and Under the Pond, an illustrated nature book. This past winter, ADK hosted a StoryWalk® featuring the book by the same author entitled Over and Under the Snow.
Written by award-winning local author Kate Messner and illustrated by Christopher Silas Neal, Over and Under the Pond brings readers into the secret underwater world of a mountain pond. Viewers of the StoryWalk® will discover the plants and animals that make up this rich, interconnected ecosystem, including darting minnows, diving beavers, and growing tadpoles. The scenes explored in the book are directly reflected in the environment at the Heart Lake Program Center, which features a pristine lake, beautiful forests, and a trail network that accesses the remote High Peaks Wilderness.
“The StoryWalk program combines two of my favorite things—reading and spending time outdoors,” said Kate Messner, author of Over and Under the Pond. I love that families will have the chance to experience Over and Under the Pond in this beautiful setting. It’s pure magic.”
“The Heart Lake Program Center is the perfect place for families to explore the natural wonders of the Adirondacks,” said Maggie Newell, ADK Outreach Manager. “The StoryWalk adds to that by offering a unique and engaging educational experience for all.”
The StoryWalk® is free and open every day. Learn more by contacting us at 518-523-3441.
