  7. Avalanche Pass Trail Closed

Avalanche Pass Trail Closed

Avalanche Pass Trail Closed

The Avalanche Pass hiking trail is closed to the public due to a landslide. This closure impacts several routes, including the passage south to Lake Colden from the Adirondak Loj and loops routes over Algonquin, Marcy, and Colden.

Another slide was reported on the southeast side of Mount Colden into Feldspar Bog/Lake Arnold Trail. The Lake Arnold Trail is open and passable.

The public is advised to avoid any loops around Algonquin and Colden. Any hike that goes through Avalanche Pass is not viable.

The Marcy-Skylight-Gray loop is not viable through Avalanche Pass and will require extra care through the Lake Arnold Pass.

Marcy, Algonquin, Colden can all be climbed as out-and-backs.

If you have any questions about these closures, alternate routes, or the current conditions in the High Peaks, please contact our High Peaks Information Center at 518-523-3441 ext. 121.

We will continue to update this page with new information when it becomes available.
