Conditions Overview
Wednesday, September 16: The forecast is calling for mostly cloudy conditions and high temperatures in the low-70s at lower elevations. There’s a chance of rain before 10 a.m.
Summits will experience ambient temperatures from 50–58ºF (10–14.4ºC). Summits wind speeds will range from 9–37 mph (14.5–59.5 km/h).
Be advised that with wind chill, summit temperatures are now regularly dipping below 40ºF early in the morning and late in the evening. Be mindful of these cooler temperatures when planning sunrise and sunset hikes.
ADK recommends checking both the local and mountain point forecasts prior to your trip. Weather in the Adirondacks is subject to severe change.

Based on reports from the field, we estimate that foliage in the Adirondack Park is around 15% of peak. Green is the predominant color, but hikers will see pockets of vibrant reds, yellows, and oranges in the backcountry.

The Avalanche Pass Trail has officially reopened more than a year after landslides from Mount Colden made the trail impassable. Professional and volunteer trail crews from DEC, Adirondack Mountain Club, Adirondack 46ers, and the Student Conservation Association began work to rebuild in the trail in June 2026.
Note: Trail work in the area is ongoing and expected to continue through 2027. Please be mindful of trail crews and equipment present along the trail.

Other News & Notes
- The following trails and roads are now open: Gulf Brook Road to Boreas Ponds; Lake Lila Road; the gate to Coreys Road; the Clear Pond Gate; Meadows Lane; Connery Pond Road; Meadows Lane; Connery Pond Road; Saint Germain Pond and Little Clear/Little Green; Shelving Rock Road and Dacy Clearing Road.
- The Station Street parking area for the Adirondack Rail Trail is closed for improvements. Alternate parking is available a the Snowfield lot on Old Military Road east of the Fire Station.
- The high-water bridge on the Calamity Brook Trail has been washed out.
- Five new tent sites have opened at Follensby Clear Pond, and five existing sites have been closed.
- The Lapland and Black Mountain Pond lean-tos are closed while their roofs are replaced. The Fishbrook Pond North Lean-to has burned down (Lake George Wild Forest). The entire site is closed (no camping or campfires) until further notice.
- Three primitive campsites around Marcy Dam have been closed, and the rest of the sites are being designated with numbers (this leaves us with 15 sites).
