Johns Brook Lodge
This backcountry haven is New York State’s only wilderness lodge. Located in the Adirondack High Peaks Wilderness, JBL is only accessible only by a scenic 3.5-mile hike from the Garden trailhead in Keene Valley. Accommodations here include cabins Peggy O’Brien and Grace Camp, 3 lean-to’s, and the iconic Johns Brook Lodge iteself.
Johns Brook Lodge opened in the summer of 1925, offering weary hikers a place to rest for just $1 per night. A century later, JBL continues to provide a one-of-a-kind Adirondack lodging experience, serving as the perfect backcountry basecamp nestled in the Johns Brook Valley of the High Peaks Wilderness. Lodging options include Johns Brook Lodge, two private cabins, and three lean-tos, making it an ideal destination for hiking, backpacking, and exploring the High Peaks.
Accommodations at Johns Brook Property
A 3.5-mile hike into the backcountry takes you to ADK’s Johns Brook Property, home to Johns Brook Lodge (JBL), Grace Camp, Camp Peggy O’Brien, and three lean-tos.
Accessible only by foot, these spots offer an opportunity to experience a remote wilderness setting with some frontcountry comforts. It’s a popular base camp for trips up many High Peaks, including Big Slide, Marcy, Gothics, and others in the Great Range.
