POSITION SUMMARY
The Heart Lake Hospitality Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of hospitality offerings at ADK’s Heart Lake Program Center, including foodservice, housekeeping operations, managing the staff of the Hospitality Crew, and well as being involved with event planning. The operations of the Hospitality Department rely on a larger seasonal staff during the busy months (July–early October). During the busy season, this role will function primarily as management for staff and operational support, with some shift work required as needed. In the off season, this role will require more time doing shift work, in addition to the management responsibilities, remaining based on a 40-hour work week.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Foodservice Operations of the Loj Dining Room and Hungry Hiker – 50%
- Responsible for smooth and efficient day-to-day operation of the Adirondak Loj and Hungry Hiker kitchens, with the support of the Hospitality Crew Lead.
- Promote a positive and service-oriented attitude within the Hospitality Crew staff.
- Supervise staff regarding service, quality of work, hospitality, use of time, and appearance.
- Provide training for all incoming and seasonal staff on kitchen operations, cooking techniques, kitchen etiquette, foodservice safety, use of POS system, and customer service.
- Plan menus and develop recipes to be served in the Loj Dining room and Hungry Hiker, with the goals of maximizing guest satisfaction, staff time, and profits, with the input of the Director of Business Operations.
- Ensure clean kitchens, correct food preparation, and storage that meets health code standards.
- Prepare meals for guests and staff, including for those with dietary restrictions.
- Order food, beverages, and operational supplies from vendors, while sticking to budgetary guidelines.
- Coordinate with service and supply vendors as needed.
- Conduct monthly inventories of food and beverage stock.
Housekeeping Management – 20%
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of housekeeping of the Adirondak Loj and Wildernes Campground, with the support of the Hospitality Lead and Housekeeping Coordinator.
- Ensure standards for cleanliness and presentation are being met.
- Ensure incoming and seasonal staff are properly trained in standards and expectations of Housekeeping shifts.
- Communicate with Director of Business Operations and Director of Maintenance to discuss maintenance needs or potential upgrades.
- Coordinate with service and supply vendors as needed.
Staff Support – 20%
- Hiring of Seasonal Heart Lake Hospitality Crew staff.
- Weekly scheduling of Heart Lake Hospitality Crew staff.
- Address conflicts or quality of work issues directly with staff and carry out Personnel Improvement plans as needed with the oversight of the Business Operations Director.
- Approve employee timecards and support staff payroll concerns.
Events Planning – 10%
- Coordinate with necessary department heads for special functions.
- Coordinate with the Business Operations Director to ensure balance between event costs and projected revenue, ensure deliverables to the guest can be met operationally.
- Coordinate with the Reservations Specialist to ensure seamless booking for guests.
- Coordinate with the Communications Department to promote events.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- A passion for outdoor education and a commitment to the mission, values, and vision of the Adirondack Mountain Club.
- 2+ years cooking experience in a professional setting or culinary degree.
- 2+ years in a leadership role, overseeing staff.
- Lifting and carrying heavy loads sometimes exceeding 50 pounds.
- Willingness to work long hours, split shifts, and in hot conditions.
- Capable of maneuvering up and down stairs and through narrow hallways.
Preferred:
- Public relations skills are a plus.
- Outgoing, warm, welcoming persona.
- Experience with POS systems and cash handling.

Classification: Full-time, non-exempt
Dates: Hiring immediately
Salary/Wage: $25.00–$31.00 / hour, dependent on experience, and if housing is needed.
